Younger Generations Developing Interest in Cryptocurrencies

Over the past couple of years, many institutions of higher learning in many parts of the world have been tailoring courses that revolve around cryptocurrencies as well as the underlying blockchain technology. This move is largely due to the fact a number of people are interested in the concept of crypto and many others have turned it into their careers. Now, the subject has penetrated the halls of high schools as more and more students want to know about these emerging technologies.

How Far Does It Go?

As mentioned earlier, blockchain and cryptocurrencies are already being taught in a decent number of college and university campuses. This trend is beginning to spill over to the younger generation of scholars who are fascinated by the concept and technology of cryptocurrencies, especially bitcoin. A great example is a school in Brisbane Australia where the students’ interest in the topic manifested in the creation of a cryptocurrency information night.

Further to the west, students at the Union Catholic High School in Scotch Plains, New Jersey also expressed their curiosity about decentralized digital currencies which then prompted the school’s Business and Personal Finance class to add cryptocurrencies to its roster in the coming semester.

“If one student’s talking about it, many of them are talking about it. So I figured we needed to include it,” explains Mr. Tim Breza, a Union Catholic business course tutor. “I am very excited that the students and Union Catholic are being exposed to this… and that the UC administration supported teaching this to our students — Not too many schools are even thinking about teaching about cryptocurrency. We’re not teaching it in the sense that you have to invest in it, we are just giving the facts of it. Blockchain is the key to all of this. That’s the revolutionary piece to it.”

This is just a simple case study but it is not a surprise to hear of students who have invested in cryptocurrencies before and this proves how rapidly cryptocurrencies are growing towards becoming the future standard for investments. Knowledge about cryptocurrencies is, therefore, going to be a handy tool for the students as they move forward with their career endeavors especially in the fields of finance and technology.
